Evaluation of brain connectivity methods. In (Wendling et al. 2009), three families of methods (linear and nonlinear regression, phase synchronization, and generalized synchronization) were reviewed and quantitatively compared. The performance was assessed according to a model-based methodology. This approach allowed the authors to relate the quantities provided by connectivity methods with the actual values of the coupling parameter explicitly represented in various models of signal generation, like coupled neural mass models, among others.
