Numerically simulated spatio-temporal dynamics of the heterogeneous neural field (left) and stationary states (right). Here the stationary state V0(x) is exponentially unstable with the parameters of point (2) in Figure 2. All parameters are identical to Figure 3, however the final field activity at large times V(x, t = 125) (dashed line) is close to the trivial solution V = 0. This jump of activity recalls the presence of the trivial stationary solution V = 0 and hence reflects the multi-stability of the heterogeneous neural field.
